USF Track & Field captures 12 event titles at Dordt Indoor Open

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – In a strong return after the holiday break, University of Sioux Falls Track & Field dominated the Dordt Indoor Open on Saturday, winning 12 events and logging a total of 44 top-five finishes. Headlining the Cougars' impressive performances was freshman Taryn Ceglowski, who captured two individual victories in the 1,000-meter and mile runs.
 
Ceglowski built off her impressive cross country season with two run-away victories in the middle-distance events. Her winning time of 5:08.46 in the mile was more than 14 seconds ahead of second place and she won the 1,000 in 2:55.09, nearly three seconds clear of the runner-up.
 
USF's men' were equally dominant in the middle-distance discipline as NSIC Preseason Men's Track Athlete of the Year Mason Phillips returned to competition after an unforgettable cross country season with an impressive mile victory. Phillips cruised to the title with a 4:16.64 winning time, more than 13 seconds ahead of second place. Zach Lundberg made his track season debut with a narrow victory in the 800-meter run, turning in a 1:57.04 time, just 0.03 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher.
 
USF swept the women's and men's 3,000-meter runs as Rachel Huffman took home the women's crown in 10:35.88 and Nick Lawson captured the men's title in 9:09.35.
 
Sarah Troescher narrowly missed breaking her own school record with a 7.23-second time in the 55-meter dash to win the race. Her 60-meter converted time of 7.78 seconds was 0.03 off her school record. Jacob Morse posted the top prelim time in the 55-meter hurdles at 7.88 seconds, but he did not compete in the finals heat.
 
The national leader in the women's pole vault, Kimberly Peterson captured her second event victory of the season with a 3.82-meter (12 feet-6.50 inches) clearance, which surpasses the NCAA provisional qualifying standard. Connor DeJong competed the pole vault sweep with a 4.55-meter (14-11.00) clearance for the men's title.
 
USF's women's throwers also swept the meet as Emma Hertz won the women's shot put with a 12.61-meter (41-4.50) toss and Jaimie McNamee captured the women's weight throw title with a mark of 15.70 meters (51-6.25).
 
The Cougars return to action next week at the SDSU Open in Brookings, S.D. on Friday, Jan. 19.
