MOORHEAD— In an all-around team effort, the University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team defeated Minnesota State Moorhead, 179-111 for their second victory in three meets.
USF swimmers finished with the first place spot in all 14 swimming events throughout the meet. The Cougars did not compete in the diving events.
Sophomore All-American
Cassie Wright, who recorded four individual or relay titles on the day, finished with a B cut time in the 100 backstroke with a 56.50 clocking in which she beat the second place finisher by more than four seconds. Wright also took first in the 100 freestyle (53.16) and led the 400 medley relay (3:59.14) and the 400 free relay (3:39.24) to titles. She was joined on the 400 medley relay squad by
Chantal Kasch,
Ella Johnson, and
Giulia Marcon. She was joined on the 400 free relay by Johnson, Marcon and
Jenna Krahn.
Marcon and Johnson were also four-event titlists on the day. Marcon continued her solid start to the season by capturing individual titles in the 200 free (1:57.84) and the 500 free (5:20.89). Johnson finished with the top time in the 100 butterfly (58.51), as well as the 200 butterfly (2:08.68). Johnson also played a crucial role in both relays, swimming the first leg of the 400 free relay and getting USF off to a first place lead.
Kasch was a three-event winner as she also captured two individual events of her own in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.77) and 200 breaststroke (2:25.85).
In the 1,000 free, USF took the top three spots with
Ellie Dewsbury finishing first (11:02.60) followed by Alexandra Sanchez-Clark (11:02.90) and
Nina Groene (11:09.05).
Krahn finished just behind Marcon in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.26 for second place. Later in the meet, Krahn won an individual title in the 50 free (24.68) and with the relay title finished with two wins on the day.
Giovanna Bario captured an individual title in the 200 back with a time of 2:13.31, while Lizzie Spaans wrapped up the individual portion of the meet with a first place finish in the IM (2:13.81).
USF will face cross-town rival Augustana on Friday, Nov. 9 for a 5 p.m. dual meet in the Elmen Center pool.
