USF Track & Field wins three events at Mount Marty Twilight

YANKTON, S.D. – University of Sioux Falls Track & Field sent a host of athletes to compete at the Mount Marty twilight on Wednesday night and captured a pair of event titles and a host of promising performances as the regular season winds down. Sisters Kimberly Peterson and Chloe Peterson joined Jonathan Rowe as event winners while Jacob Morse and Joseph Kirkebak both registered posted top-10 marks in the USF record books.
 
As the No. 2-ranked women's pole vaulter in NCAA Division II, junior Kimberly Peterson lived up to her billing by winning the event by nearly three feet. Peterson cleared 4.00 meters (13 feet-1.50 inches) on her first attempt, the second time she's eclipsed the four-meter mark this outdoor season.
 
In the women's long jump, freshman Chloe Peterson captured her first outdoor event title with an outdoor PR. Peterson recorded a best mark of 5.43 meters (17-9.75), just an inch off the USF all-time top-10 list. Mahli Strasser posted a leap of 5.00 meters (16-5.00) to take seventh place in the women's long jump. On the men's side, Evan Hagen took third at 6.76 meters (22-2.25) and Xavier Scarlett finished seventh at 6.18 meters (20-3.50).
 
Running into a slight headwind, Jonathan Rowe posted a season-best with a victory in the men's 100-meter dash. The No. 4 performer in USF's record books, Rowe clocked an 11.12-second time for meet title. In the women's 100-meter dash, Chloe Peterson and Mercy Oyadare both finished in the top four. Peterson posted a 12.78-second time and Oyadare finished in 12.92 seconds.
 
With a two-second PR, Jacob Morse finished fourth in the men's 400-meter hurdles. With a 57.90-second time, Morse moved up to No. 9 in the USF record books and took fourth at the meet.
 
Hitting a personal-best mark, Joseph Kirkebak took fourth in the men's high jumped and move up one spot on USF's all-time list. Kirkebak cleared 1.91 meters (6-3.25), taking fourth in the event and taking over the No. 9 spot in the USF record books.
 
The trio of Allison Laibach, Clara Paul and Kara Koth all finished in the top four of the women's triple jump. Laibach was runner-up with an 11.15-meter (36-7.00) mark, a new PR for the freshman. Paul took third at 10.87 meters (35-8.00) and Koth was fourth with a 10.74-meter (35-3.00) leap.
 
Five different USF throwers recorded top-eight marks, including a pair of women in the javelin throw. Miranda Phipps placed third at 35.00 meters (114-10) and Bailey Rudebusch was sixth, recording a 33.04-meter (108-05) mark. Jaimie McNamee and Christian Gruschin both took fourth in the women's and men's discus, respectively. McNamee posted a 43.24-meter (141-10) toss and Gruschin recorded a 47.98-meter (157-05) throw. Haley Fockler rounded out the event with a 46.58-meter (152-10) throw in the women's hammer throw, tying her PR and taking fifth in the event.
 
Sioux Falls will split their squad this weekend, sending their throwers to majority of the team to the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa on Friday, April 27 then taking the Cougar throws squad to the Drake Alternative in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday, April 27.
