USF Soccer falls at Wayne State, 2-0

WAYNE, Neb. – In a match where the defenses dominated, the University of Sioux Falls Women's Soccer Team (1-4, 0-2 NSIC) dropped a 2-0 decision to Wayne State (1-3, 1-1 NSIC) at the WSC Soccer Pitch on Friday afternoon.

The Cougars, which dropped a third straight match, fell to 0-2 in league play due to their recent offensive drought. USF, which has scored just one goal in the past two matches, had nine shots, including two on goal. However, the Cougars couldn't break through against WSC's goalie Alyssa Bagley, who registered two saves in 90 minutes in goal.

USF goalie Brayden Paul had another solid match in goal, allowing just two goals with eight saves in working 90 minutes.

The Wildcats owned a 15-9 advantage in shots, including six in the first half with three shots on goal. In the second half, WSC had nine shots with seven on goal.  Meanwhile, USF had nine shots, including two on goal. The Cougars took three shots in the opening 45 minutes and had six shots in the second half.

WSC opened the scoring at 22:44 as Rylie Wehner scored on a header from eight feet off an assist from Natalie Rech whose free kick ended in the goal. At the 80:52 mark, WSC closed the scoring when Madison Kemp slipped the ball under Paul on the right side of the net. Christina Stasi earned the assist for the Wildcats.

USF's offense was led by Lily McKown who had two shots, including one on goal. McKayla Philippi also had two shots while Lindsey Power had USF's other shot on goal.

Next for USF will be a city rivalry matchup at Augustana at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16.
