USF Swimming's Cassie Wright picks up third NSIC Swimmer of the Week honor in 2018-19

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Sophomore All-American Cassie Wright of the University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team, who won two individual events and swam the opening leg of a winning relay in a dual competition with Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday, Jan. 19, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Swimmer of the Week for the third time this year, according to an announcement today by the league office.

Wright of Christchurch, New Zealand, earned her fourth NSIC Swimmer of the Week honor while the USF program has five total (Ingelin Lima, Nov. 21, 2017; Wright, Feb. 6, 2018; Wright, Oct. 26 2018; Wright, Nov. 12, 2018) in three years in the league.
 
In the 108-55 win over Iowa Lakes Community College in which USF swimmers won all 14 events, Wright swam the opening leg of the winning 200 free relay team that clocked a time of 1:41.66. While leading off the relay, Wright recorded a NCAA "B" cut time of 23.80 (50 free). Wright captured individual titles in the 50-yard backstroke (26.07) and the 100 back (55.92).
 
Early this year, Wright was honored as the NSIC Swimmer of the Week in a 161-136 setback to Minnesota State. At that dual meet, she set a school record in the 200 IM (2:08.45), and also won the 50 free and 100 backstroke while swimming on the winning 200 medley relay. Wright also received the NSIC Swimmer of the week on Nov., 12, following a 163-98 win over city rival Augustana. In that dual meet, Wright anchored the winning 200 Medley relay team that clocked a time of 1:24.76. Wright also captured individual titles in the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Backstroke, and the 100 IM.
 
Through USF's first eight meets in the 2018-19 season, Wright has recorded 17 individual victories.  Last spring at the NCAA DII Championships, Wright earned All-American honors with a second-place finish in the 200 Backstroke and third place in the 100 Backstroke. She became USF's first-ever swimmer with top-three finishes at nationals.
 
Wright and her USF teammates will next compete in the Coyote Invitational hosted by the University of South Dakota on Friday, Feb. 1- Sunday, Feb. 3, at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls.
