USF Soccer drops heart-breaker to Minot State

MINOT, N.D.- The University of Sioux Falls soccer squad took on a Minot State squad in what proved to be a very competitive match. The Cougars were able to jump to a 1-0 lead, but eventually fell to the Beavers 3-1 on Friday.

The Cougars will remain in North Dakota to take on U-Mary in Bismarck on Sunday. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.

Freshman Alexis Wemhoff spent the duration of the match in the net, recording a save on the night.

As a team, the Cougars were narrowly outshot by the Beavers 14-to-11.

Both teams were off to a sluggish first half, only recording a shot on goal a piece, leading to a scoreless tie heading into halftime.

The scoreless knot remained until the 52nd minute when senior Erin O'Tool recorded the only goal of the match for the Cougars, with junior Olivia Valdez recorded the assist. In the match, Valdez took a team-leading three shots, two shots on goal.

The lead did not last long for the Cougars, as the Beavers got the equalizer in the 55th minute, then took the lead in the 67th minute. Minot State's Sofia Lewis, who scored the go-ahead goal, added an insurance goal with her second goal of the night in the 75th minute.
