USF Swimming's Ella Johnson earns second NSIC Swimmer of the Week honor in 2019-20

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Sophomore Ella Johnson of the No. 9/14 University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team (7-0) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Swimmer of the Week for a second time this year, according to an announcement today by the league office.

Johnson of Southport, England, has had a strong start to the 2019-20 season. She won three individual events and was part of a winning relay squad to help the Cougars tool to a seventh straight dual win without a loss in a 174-114 victory over DI Nebraska-Omaha. 

At the meet against UNO on Nov. 9 at the Midco Aquatic Center, Johnson recorded her top 200 free time of the season in 1:55.25 as she won the event with a clocking that ranks 36th in NCAA DII. She also claimed the 200 fly title in 2:06.63 which ranks 12th in DII and her winning 100 fly time of 56.32 ranked eighth in DII.  Johnson was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay which clocked in at 3:54.23.

On Oct. 8, Johnson was also named the NSIC Swimmer of the Week. To this point in the season, she ranks in the top seven in three individual events in DII.  She is ranked first in DII in the 200 fly at 2:02.00 with an NCAA "B" cut and fourth nationally in the 50 fly with a clocking of 26.31. She is also seventh in DII and first in the NSIC in the 100 fly with her clocking of 56.05.
 
Plus, Johnson has played a role on four relays which rank high nationally. With a clocking of 7:54.57, the Cougars 800 free relay squad of Elizabeth Spaans, Guilia Marcon, Leah Eagleton and Johnson is fourth at 7:54.57. USF's 400 medley relay of Spaans, Johnson, Kasch and Marcon is 11th in DII and second in the NSIC with a clocking of 3:52.87.

The Cougars sit 12th in DII and first in the NSIC in the 400 free relay with a clocking of 3:34.11. The relay includes Ursula Demarquet, Spaans, Johnson and Jenna Krahn. In addition, USF is 14th nationally and second in the NSIC with a 200 medley relay clocking of 1:47.12. The relay consists of Spaans, Johnson, Kasch and Krahn.
 
Johnson and the USF Swimming Team will next compete at the Sioux Falls Invite on Nov. 21-23 in Sioux Falls.
