MOORHEAD, Minn.— In a rematch of a Sept. 27 victory at the Stewart Center over MSU Moorhead, the University of Sioux Falls Volleyball team got the same results as they did on Ron Eiseland Court, beating the Dragons in four sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-27, 25-19) at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead on Friday.
The Numbers-
The trio of senior KaSandra Springer, redshirt senior Abby Feyereisen, and redshirt sophomore Kenzie Byers paced the Cougars with double digits kills. Springer set a team-high with 19 kills, with Feyereisen just behind with 16, and Byers rounding out the double-digit kills group with 13 kills.
Junior Krista Goerger registered 44 assists on the night to add to her Division II program-record for career assists.
On defense, senior Allie Maloney led the team with 14 digs, where Feyereisen was the force at the net, blocking four attacks (four assisted blocks).
The Match-
Springer recorded a kill in the first set to cap off a strong 13-6 start to the set. The Dragons took three straight rallies to make it a 4-point, 13-9 lead for the Cougars, but USF kept their hot-hitting going and finished the set on a 12-6 run to take a 1-0 match lead.
The Dragons got ahead 9-3 in the early goings of the second set, but the Cougars fought back to a one-point, 11-10 Dragon lead. Both teams fought to a 17-13 lead for MSUM, but the Cougars heated up afterwards by finishing the set on yet another 12-6 run to take a 2-0 lead heading into intermission.
USF had a 5-2 lead in the third set that eventually dwindled to a 12-12 tie. Trailing 21-19, the Dragons went on a crucial 5-2 run to take a 25-24 lead, which the Dragons were able to ride to an eventual 27-25 set three victory to cut the Cougars' match lead in half.
It was a quick fourth set, with USF charging to a 17-9 lead, and eventually pushing to a 25-19 set four victory to win the match 3-1.
What's Next-
The Cougars will now go to Aberdeen to face No. 7 Northern State who fell to No. 18 Southwest Minnesota State in five sets at home. In their last match on Sept. 28, the Cougars took the first set at the Stewart Center before losing to the Wolves 3-1.
