ABERDEEN, S.D.— The University of Sioux Falls Volleyball team looked for revenge against No. 7 Northern State, attempting to avenge a 3-1 loss at home to the Wolves on Sept. 28. Unfortunately for the Cougars, history repeated itself when the Wolves squeaked past the Cougars in four sets (20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 19-25) on Saturday.
The Numbers-
Senior KaSandra Springer was the sole Cougar with double digit kills, recording 16 of the Cougars' 44 kills. Springer capped off the day with a double-double, amassing 18 digs in addition to her kills.
Match Notes-
The Wolves jumped to an early lead, but were quickly met with a heating up Cougars who got it to with two (14-12) of the Wolves with a Springer kill. The Wolves would go on a crucial 6-3 run that helped propel them to the set one win.
The Cougars started the second set on a 7-4 run, but a 3-0 run tied the match for the Wolves. The Cougars were able to heat up again to take the lead on a 9-4 run and rode that all the way to a 23-18 lead. The Wolves had a strong finish to the set though, taking seven straight rallies to comeback and take the set 25-23.
USF made some adjustments during intermission, and it showed when they started the third set with a 16-9 lead. The Cougars kept a hold of the lead, despite the Wolves getting to within one of the Cougars at 22-21, but the Cougars took the final three rallies to win the set and cut the Wolves' lead in half.
NSU returned the favor in the fourth set by getting ahead 17-9 in the fourth set, which was nearly completely erased when the Cougars went on a 7-0 run to make it a one-point, 17-16 Wolves lead. NSU finished the set on an 8-3 run to take the set and win the match 3-1.
