SIOUX FALLS – Sophomore All-American
Cassie Wright set a meet record with an NCAA "A" cut in the 100-yard backstroke to highlight another strong day of performances by the University of Sioux Falls Swimming team at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the Midco Aquatic Center on Friday.
USF, which is serving as host for the conference meet, holds a fourth place spot in the overall standings with 396.5 total points, Minnesota State sits in first with 634 points and is followed closely by St. Cloud State with 619.5 points. Augustana is in third with 422.5 points.
Wright highlighted the day for USF with her title in the 100 back after an NCAA 'A' cut and NSIC Championships meet record time of 53.80.
Elizabeth Spaans tied for fifth in the event with a 56.89 clocking, while teammates
Gigi Bario took 11th (58.72) and
Julia Linebaugh was 16th (1:00.66).
Chantal Kasch claimed second in the 100 breaststroke after breaking a school record with a 1:03.62 clocking. Her performance was also an NCAA 'B' cut.
Freshman
Ella Johnson took second in the 200 fly with an NCAA 'B' standard and school record time of 1:59.83. Northern State All-American swimmer Hannah Kastigar just edged out Johnson for with a first place clocking of 1:58.50.
The USF 800 Medley relay team of Spaans,
Leah Eagleton,
Evelyn VanDeMark and
Nina Groene recorded a fifth place time of 7:49.47.
USF will resume action with the fourth day of the NSIC Championships with the preliminary rounds beginning at 10 a.m., at the Midco Aquatic Center.
