INDIANAPOLIS— The University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team's 200 Medley Relay Team of
Cassie Wright,
Chantal Kasch,
Ella Johnson and
Jenna Krahn took 12th in the first day of the NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday night.
Wright, Kasch, Johnson and Krahn raced in the 'B' finals event where they registered a season- best clocking of 1:42.99. USF's finals time was almost a full second faster than their preliminary time 1:43.97.
USF scored 10 points in the relay and stand 19th in the team standings after the opening day of the NCAA DII Championships.
Wright, a sophomore All-American from Christchurch, New Zealand, swam the opening leg of the relay in a blazing clip of 25.43 which led all swimmers in the 'B' final. Kasch recorded a 29.15 split with Johnson clocking a 25.19 and Krahn, 23.22.
Earlier in the day, Wright clocked a 23.77 and finished 35th in the 50 freestyle prelims but did not advance to the finals.
USF will be back in action tomorrow morning with the 200 freestyle relay, 100 butterfly and 400 medley relay preliminary races beginning at 9 a.m., for the second day of the NCAA DII Championships.
USF's 200 freestyle relay is ranked 17th with a time of 1:33.92 and the squad will consist of Wright, Krahn,
Giulia Marcon and
Elizabeth Spaans.
As she seeks her first All-American honor, Johnson is ranked 12th in the 100 butterfly with a clocking of 55:02 after setting a school and conference record.
In the 400 medley relay, USF, which set an NSIC Championships record in winning the event, will be seeded ninth with a 3:44.31 clocking. The relay team will consist of Wright, Kasch, Johnson and Marcon.
