Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Despite a pair of home runs from sophomore outfielder
Alex Robinson, the University of Sioux Falls Baseball Team (0-8) dropped a pair of nonconference games to Grand Valley State (6-6) as the Cougars opened their spring break trip to Florida.
USF, which will play U-Mary and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, March 9, fell to GVSU, 10-3 and 8-3. Robinson had three hits, including his first two at USF, and three RBI to lead the USF offense, which produced six runs and 14 hits in the two games.
Game 1 - GVSU 10 USF 3
In the first game of the doubleheader, GVSU built an 8-0 lead and held on for a 10-3 victory against USF. GVSU scored four runs in the first inning and added a single run in the third inning and three more in the fourth inning before USF answered. The Cougars were able to cut the deficit to 8-3 as they picked up a run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning on Robinson's homer. However, GVSU put the game away with two more runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Robinson doubled and hit his first career home run with a two-run shot in the fifth inning. USF's
Kyle Gulbrandson had three hits in four at bats while
Josh Rehwaldt extended his hitting streak to seven games.
USF sophomore right-hander
Alex Loosbrock (0-2) picked up his second loss of the season. He worked 3 2/3 innings and allowed eight hits and eight earned runs with a strikeout in facing 22 batters. USF used six total pitchers including
Mitchell Lyall (1/3, no runs, no hits),
Matt Graham (one inning, one strikeout, no hits, no walks),
Payton Livingston (one inning, two hits, two runs),
Christian Lazar (2/3 inning, no hits, no runs) and
Charles Roskowiak (1/3 inning, no runs, no hits).
Rylan Peets earned the victory for GVSU after working four innings and allowing five hits and one run with seven strikeouts. Sam Leck finished up with two innings of shutout relief. Jacob Gleason led the GVSU offense with two hits and three RBI while Anthony Cocco had two hits and two RBI.
Game 2 – GVSU 7 USF 3
Despite a strong start, USF dropped the second game of the doubleheader, 7-3, to GVSU. The Cougars led 3-0 through three innings before GVSU put up a seven-run inning in the fourth inning. USF's offense was led by freshman outfielder
Connor King with two hits and Robinson who had a two-run home run.

Brennan Gabriel and Sam Michel
In the second inning, Robinson had his second home run of the day, a two-run shot to give the Cougars the 2-0 advantage. USF also added a single run in the third inning when sophomore shortstop
Grant Lung scored an unearned run. However, GVSU answered by putting up seven runs in bottom of the fourth inning. After that GVSU added a run in the sixth inning to increase its advantage to 8-3.
USF loaded the bases in the seventh inning when Sam Michaels and
Ryan Meyer were hit by pitches and
Connor King singled. However Brendan Nearing of GVSU stopped a potential USF rally by recording a pair of strikeouts.
USF starter
Brandon Roesler (0-3) picked up the loss. He threw four innings and allowed six hits and three earned runs (seven total) with four strikeouts.
Spencer Dokken worked the final two innings and allowed a run on three hits with a strikeout among the eight batters he faced.
GVSU was led by Gleason who had two hits and three RBI. Keaghan Sutliff picked up the win by allowing two hits and no runs across 1 2/3 innings.
