SIOUX FALLS - The University of Sioux Falls women's soccer team looked clean in their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener against Wayne State, but fell to the Wildcats Friday afternoon on a golden goal in the 107th minute at the USF Sports Complex.
Leading the Cougars offensively were the trio of freshman midfielder-forward
Alexis Naujokaitis, senior defender
Lily McKown, and junior midfielder
Kassidy Graber, all of whom took a shot in the contest.
The first half started strong, with both teams recording two shots, one on goal, in the first 20 minutes, but the offensive pushes ceased after this point, with the teams remaining defensive for the remainder of the half.
In the final 45 minutes of regulation, both teams could not get the opportunities needed to get a go-ahead goal, with the Wildcats taking three shots, all but one going on goal compared to  McKown's shot on goal late in the half.
In overtime, fatigue became a huge factor, with the teams only getting a combined three shots in the final 17 minutes. The Wildcats were able to capitalize on their final shot when a weakly-placed shot pulled freshman goalkeeper
Alexis Wemhoff away from the goal and allowed the Wildcats' Riley Wehner's golden goal with 3:32 left in the contest.
The Cougars will take the pitch again on Sunday when Augustana makes the trip across town to the USF Sports Complex. Kickoff for that in-city rivalry match is slated for 1 p.m.
