SIOUX FALLS --
Jacob Zosel carded a season-best score of 72 to help lead the University of Sioux Falls Men's Golf Team to second place in the team standings after day one of the Augustana Invitational which opened on a cloudy cold Saturday at the Elmwood Golf Course. The final round will be held on Sunday with a 9 a.m. start.
With his round of 72, Zosel, a junior from Morris, Minn., is second overall but just a shot back of overall leader Colby Cox of Missouri Southern State. Cox and MSSU have the team lead as well after carding a team total of 296. USF is four shots back at 300 for second place. After those two top teams, the South Dakota School of Mines is nine shots back of USF in third while Augustana is fourth at 311 and Manitoba is fifth at 316 with Minnesota Crookston, sixth at 317.
Despite the cold conditions, USF had strong performances across the roster. Senior
JJ Cooney carded a 75 and is tied for fifth overall. Cooney has shot seven rounds this fall and recorded a 75 or lower in every round. Also for USF, senior
Brenden Bassing is tied for ninth with a 76. Two USF golfers, sophomore
Jack Evans and senior
Blake Berry sit at 77 and tied for 13th.
Four USF golfers shot as individuals and fared well at the invite. Junior
Jake Oetzmann is tied for 19th after opening the tourney with a 79. Tied for 28th is sophomore
Hank Eggebraaten with an 81 while junior
Bronson Vasa is tied for 37th with an 83. In addition, sophomore
Nathan Woodall is tied for 39th with a score of 84.
