SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls Head Tennis Coach
Kevin Grebin has announced the signing of Katelyn Nesheim of Sioux Falls, S.D., who will continue her academic and athletic career at USF. The NCAA recruiting signing period opened on Wednesday, Nov. 11, which allowed student-athletes to sign with their respective programs. She joins Brianna Holm of Alexandria, Minn.; and Ella Schmidt of Eden Prairie, Minn., in USF's 2021 signing class.
"We are excited to announce Katelyn (Nesheim) as an addition to our 2021 recruiting class," said Grebin, who noted that Nesheim played varsity tennis at Sioux Falls Washington High School for six years. "Katelyn is a talented student-athlete who has had significant success in high school," added Grebin, whose team was 8-5 in 2020 before CoVID-19 ended the season. "I think she is a motivated player with a ton of energy and will bring a positive demeanor to the program. She will certainly contribute to the success of our team," he said.
The daughter of Tammi and Mark Nesheim, she placed fourth at the South Dakota State Tennis Tournament in No. 1 singles and fifth in No. 1 doubles as a senior. During her senior season, Nesheim was 12-8. As a junior, she was fifth at the state tourney in No. 1 singles as she finished 8-5 on the season. In her sophomore year, she was 8-9 at No. 1 singles.
Since she was a sophomore, Nesheim played No. 1 singles and had a 28-22 overall record with two state tournament appearances. During her career at WHS, she recorded an overall 59-55 record in playing at No. 1, No. 2 or No. 6 singles dating to the seventh grade. As a seventh grader, she played No. 6 and was 11-12 and was 7-14 at No. 2 singles as an eighth grader. In her freshman season, she played at No. 2 singles and finished 13-7.
Nesheim, who played for the Great Life Woodlake Tennis Club, has been on the Honor Roll at WHS throughout high school and a member of the National Honors Society. She received a community service award for 100 hours of volunteer service in 2019 through the helpline center, SALSA.
She has a sister, Rylie, and will major in special education at USF.
