Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Nick Moen

USF Soccer beats Minn-Crookston 2-0 on Friday night, securing 3rd straight shutout!

SIOUX FALLS – In the 14th match of the season, the Sioux Falls Soccer Team secures their second straight victory and third straight shutout, 2-0 at Minnesota Crookston on Friday night. The Cougars have picked up points in three straight matches (2-0-1) during conference play and have continued to battle injuries and are finding their offensive identity as the season unfolds.

On Friday afternoon, the Cougars took on the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles on the road. The match started for the Cougars and Golden Eagles trading field possessions and shots where the game after 45 minutes of play, saw a 0-0 score at the half.

In the 2nd half, it was at the 64' mark when Grace Held put one into the back of the net, putting the Cougars up 1-0. The game continued with both teams exchanging field position and then in the 83rd minute, Aundria Vargas took a corner kick and on a header by Bailey Kehrli, who scored her first career goal for USF! The Cougars had 19 shots on the day, 15 of which came in the 2nd half of the match where they continued to put on the offensive pressure in getting a season high nine corner kicks to Minn-Crookston (one) during the match.

On the defensive end, for the first time in the DII era and first time since 2010 overall, the Cougars have three straight shutout performances. Caroline Titze was in goal for the Cougars today who faced 9 shots (4 saves) during the match. The goalkeeping unit improved their save percentage to .885 on the season. Caroline Titze has faced 62 shots this season and has a GAA of 1.50.

"I am really happy with our teams response in the second half. They settled in and started to solve some of the problems in the run of play. Our defense has done a great job these last three games keeping our opponents scoreless and allowing us to continue to push forward and find more attacks in games then we had been earlier in the year. We have a big test on Sunday but we are looking forward to the challenge", said Head Coach Brittany Domino.

The Cougars (3-8-3, 3-5-3) will be back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they head to Bemidji State who are atop the NSIC standings.
