SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls Soccer Team (1-7-1, 1-4-1 NSIC) dropped a 3-0 decision to St. Cloud State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Sunday on the road.

SCSU opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Claire Shea struck first for a 1-0 lead in the first half. The Huskies applied offensive pressure on the Cougars with 15 shots in the first half. However, the Cougars continued their strong defensive effort and kept the scoring minimal as the half ended, 1-0. In goal, Alexis Wemhoff recorded eight saves. On offense, the Cougars had two shots.

In the second half, SCSU added two more goals. The Huskies took a 2-0 lead at the 56' mark when Claire Shea scored her second goal of the day. Shea ended the day with nine shots and the two goals to lead SCSU. Later in the half, the Huskies struck again on the foot of Karlie Valdez to put the Huskies up, 3-0. The Cougars faced 34 shots on the day (16 saves) but they were unable to capitalize on four corner kicks they had on the day. Kelsey Oswald led the Cougars in shots (2) on the day, followed by Grace Held, Hannah Welch, Alexis Naujokaitis, and Julia Kreutner with one each.

"I was proud of the fight our girls showed on Friday night to secure the point in conference play. They worked extremely hard for all 110 minutes and were up for anything that came their way. On Sunday, the very things that kept them in the game on Friday were the same things that hurt us today. We didn't battle as much as needed to and we had a hard time staying in the game," said USF Head Coach Brittany Domino.

The Cougars will look to bounce back this upcoming Friday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. when they host cross town rival Augustana at the USF Soccer Complex.
