BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -- All-Americans Chantal
Kasch and
Jenna Krahn of the University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team concluded their competition at the NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday morning at the Birmingham
Crossplex.
A senior All-American from
Stade Germany,
Kasch was 19
th in 2:20.54 in the 200 breast and did not advance to the finals. Kasch also placed 17th in the 100 breast with a clocking of 1:04.00, which was just off her 1:03.42 seed time on Friday morning. Earlier this year,
Kasch, a psychology and criminal justice major, defended in titles in winning both the 100 and 200 breast events at the
NSIC Championships and finished her career with eighth
NSIC titles (individual or relay). A three-time CSCAA Scholar All American, who is a three-time Academic All-NSIC honoree and three-time NSIC Academic Team of Excellence honoree, Kasch was named a D2 ADA Academic Achievement Recipient 2020. She earned CSCAA All-American honors in 2020.
Jenna
Krahn, who was 17th in the 50 free with a clocking of 23.62 in prelims on Wednesday (March 17). Placed 29
th in the 100 free in 52.08. This season,
Krahn, a senior exercise science major from Johnston, Iowa, won 17 titles including 12 as an individual. In the 50 free,
Krahn had a personal best of 23.33 in 2019-20 and then recorded a 23.45 in winning her first
NSIC 50 free title at the
NSIC Championship. Named NSIC Swimmer of the week on 10/29/2020, Krahn was a three-time NSIC Academic Teal of Excellence and NSIC All-Academic Team honoree. In 2020, she was selected as a CSCAA All-American and D2 ADA Academic Achievement recipient.
In her final performance of 2021,
Elizabeth Spaans, a junior from Brandon, S.D., had a clocking of 56.51 in the 100 back and finished 18th at the NCAA DII Championships. Spaans won two individual titles at the NSIC Championships and was part of a winning 400 medley relay and a second-place 800 free relay at the NSIC Championships. A two-time NSIC Academic Team of Excellence and NSIC All-Academic Team honoree, she was named a CSCAA All-American in 2020 and this year was an D2 ADA Academic Achievement Recipient.
"We are so proud of how these three young women represented USF at the NCAA DII National Championships," said
Chris Hamstra, USF's third-year Swimming Head Coach. "They did so with distinction and pride plus a positive and upbeat demeanor," said Hamstra.
At the
NSIC Championships, the three All-Americans played key roles as Cougars, who had a program best 12 dual wins this season, finished third for a fourth straight year. The Cougars, which had seven individuals or relays crowned champions at the 2021
NSIC Championships, had 10 provisional marks and 36
All-NSIC performers.
