Lexi Hanson finished second and earned selection to the All-Tourney Team, as the University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf Team registered a fifth place finish at the Holiday Inn Express Classic which concluded on Tuesday (March 30) at the St. Joseph Country Club.
With Hanson leading the charge, the Cougars moved up from ninth to a tie for fifth and recorded the top finish by an NSIC school at the tournament (seven total NSIC schools) by recording a two-round total of 666 (344-322) which was 90-over par. USF, which improved from day one to day two by 22 strokes, was tied with host school Missouri Western (666-347-319). The team champion was Central Oklahoma at 61-over par 637 (322-315) while Northeastern State was 72 over par 648 (328-320) with SW Oklahoma State at 78 over par 654 (331-323) and Rogers State at 87-over par 663 (335-328) and then USF and MWSU took fifth. USF placed in the top five for the third time in the last four tournaments this spring.
Hanson, who had her third top 10 and second runner-up finish this spring, claimed a tied for second at 12-over par 156 (79-77) and finished just three shots from medalist honors, which was captured by Yasmin Hang of Northeastern State at nine-over par 153 (76-77). Her round of 77 was tied for the second best round of the tournament. Today, she opened with a 41 and closed with a 36. Today, she had birdies on the par five 467-yard third hole and on hole 15, which is a par four 362-yard hole. In total she finished with four birdies and had 19 total pars across the 36 holes.
Sophomore Maggie
Veenendall aided USF's cause with a big jump during the final round as she finished tied for 24
th with a 23-over par total of 167 (87-80). She moved up 18 spots in the individual standings with a second day round of 39-41. She had a birdie on the par four hole 12 and added nine pars. For the tourney, she had three birdies and 13 pars.
Senior
Sydney Hubbard also made a move up the leader board. She finished in a tied for 31
st, which was a move of 11 spots. Hubbard had a 25-over par total of 169 (87-82). In the 82 today which was an improvement by five shots over day one, Hubbard had nine-hole totals of 40 and 42. She had a birdie on the 362-yard par four hole 15 and had six pars. In total Hubbard had two birdies and 13 pars.
Another USF golfer with a substantial jump on day two was senior
Kyleigh Moran, who improved by 17 spots in the leader board to finish in a tie for 66
th. With a 33-over par total of 177 (94-83), Moran sliced 11 shots over her first day round. In her second day round of 83 (41-42), she had a pair of birdies including the par four 422-yard hole 12 and the par four, 339 yard hole 14 while adding six pars. She finished with 10 pars and two third birdies.
Senior
Lexi Jonas was tied for 73
rd with a 35-over par total of 179 (91-88). She finished with 10 pars on the tournament and had a birdie of the par five 486-yard hole 17 during the final round (44-44).
