Box Score ABERDEEN, S.D. – With weather setting in, the University of Sioux Falls Baseball Team (7-11, 3-11 NSIC) was only able to play one game with Northern State (9-7, 8-4 NSIC) in Aberdeen on Teesday, (April 6) at Fossum Field.
In the opener, the Cougars dropped a 7-3 decision to the Wolves. Then in game two, the teams were deadlocked in a 7-7 tie after four innings when the weather halted play and forced cancellation of game two. The stats from game two will not count as the game was not official. Next for USF will be a three-game series on April 10-11 at St. Cloud State.
Game 1 – Northern State 7 USF 3
USF led early on a two-run home run by
Ryan Bernardy, but Northern State rallied with a five-run fifth inning to take the 7-3 decision.
Andrew Maslowski (1-3) took the loss for USF as he worked four innings and allowed six hits and just three earned runs with five strikeouts and three walks in throwing 82 pitches.
Payton Livingston (inning, three hits, three runs, 17 pitches) and
Drew Leonard (one inning, one hit, strikeout, 15 pitches) also worked on the mound for USF.
USF finished with five hits, including two by Tyler Case who had an RBI and run scored.
Ryan Bernardy hit his 17
th career home run with his sixth this season.
Trey Hubers and
Connor King also had hits for USF.
The Cougars opened up a three-run advantage in the third inning after
Kyle Gulbrandson walked and later scored on a run-scoring double by Cate. Then, Cate came home on a two-run home run from Bernardy. In the bottom half of the inning, Reece Ragatz hit a double to score Austin Portner as USF led, 3-1. NSU added a run in the fourth as they cut the lead to 3-2. In the fifth inning, NSU scored five runs to take control of the game. Ramon Vega hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to give NSU a 4-3 lead. Then Isaiah Chevalier hit a triple to score two more as NSU took a 6-3 lead. Alex Gauer's home run built a 7-3 lead for NSU.
