TOPEKA, KS – The Washburn Invitational came to a close today (Sept. 14) with the University of Sioux Falls Men's Golf Team, led by a 53rd place finish from senior
Jack Evans, placing 18
th after posting a 126-over par 978. Evans led USF with an 18-over par 231.
Sioux Falls shot 337 in the first round and showed improvement with 320 and 321 in the second and final rounds, respectively. Their 18
th place finish dropped them 20 strokes outside 17
th place Newman. Arkansas Tech took home the win shooting 11-over par with 863 (295-292-276) while Henderson's 871 (296-296-279) and host Washburn's 874 (294-294-286) landed them in 2
nd and 3rd, respectively. Individually, Dawson Wills from Washburn edged the one-under par 212 from Gregor Weck of Southwestern Oklahoma State to take the individual title shooting a two-under par 211.
Breakdown of USF scores --
- Jack Evans placed T53rd after posting an 18-over par 231. The team leader shot 75, 77, and 79.
- Gavin Metz placed T80th with a 25-over par score of 238 (77-81-80).
"We didn't shoot as well as we're capable of." said USF Head Coach
Wade Merry "Our guys are better than they showed in this opening tournament. As we look to next week, our goal in Oklahoma is to improve and show what we are capable of doing on the green. For now, that means getting back and putting in work on the course."
The USF Men's Golf team will travel to Muskogee, Oklahoma, for the 2021 NSU Men's Golf Classic on September 20
th and 21
