Muskogee, OK - The USF Men's Golf Team travels to Oklahoma for their second meet of the season. The Cougars will take part in the 2021 NSU Men's Golf Classic at the Muskogee Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 20-21).
The Cougars meet roster will consist of
Jack Evans,
Gavin Metz,
Cole Harste,
Jake Oetzmann, and
Anthony Cylkowski. Only Harste did not join the team last week in Kansas, this will be his first meet with USF.
After a historic season last year, the Cougars got off to a slow start in their first meet of the season with an 18th place finish at the Washburn Invitational last week. Evans led USF with an 18-over par 231 while the team finished 126-over at 978. Sioux Falls shot 337 in the first round followed by improved scores in the latter rounds of 320 and 321.
At last weeks meet Evans placed T53rd to lead the Cougars with scores of 75, 77, and 79. The senior averaged 76.5 a year ago on a Sioux Falls squad that averaged 299.9 which ranked 2nd in the NSIC.
Metz was unable to follow up on his 76.6 average from last year as he shot 77-81-80 to open the season. The junior finished the first meet in a tie for 80th with his 25-over par 238.
Cylkowski began his sophomore campaign with a 40-over par 253. His round scores improved throughout with his opening 90 followed by an 82 and 81 which placed him 106th overall.
Oetzmann shot 92 in the opening round before improving with back-to-back rounds of 82. His latter scores were on par with his 81.89 average from last year. The grad student finished 114th at the first meet.
After last week's showing, head coach
Wade Merry mentioned, "Our goal in Oklahoma is to improve and show what we are capable of doing on the green. Our guys are better than they showed."
The Cougars chance to prove themselves is fast approaching as they will tee off on the first of 54 holes at the 6,729-yard par 71 course on Monday morning.
