USF Soccer drops a 1-0 decision to Upper Iowa

SIOUX FALLS – In the fifth match of the season, the Sioux Falls Soccer Team dropped a 1-0 decision to Upper Iowa on the road in NSIC action today (Sept. 19).

The Cougars and Peacocks went into the half tied at 0-0 exchanging possession with the Cougars having two shots on goal to Upper Iowa's three shots. It was in the 73rd minute when the Peacocks struck first, which ended up being the only goal of the match when Sami Reding put it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. That lead stood for the remaining 17 minutes of the match for a 1-0 final.

The Cougars had three shots on the day by Lauren Johnson, Addison Westermeyer, and Ivory Donald. As the defensive battle continued throughout the game, Alexis Wemhoff finished with eight saves on the day. This weekend in two matches, Wemhoff allowed just one goal and had 20 saves across 180 minutes in goal.

"Today was a tough game. We didn't come out and execute the game plan well enough. We have a pretty young group and I have confidence we will bounce back this week and learn from the mistakes we made today," Head Coach Brittany Domino said.

The Cougars fall to 1-4 (1-1) on the season and will be back in action this upcoming Friday, September 24 against the University of Mary 2-1-2 (1-0-1) at 2 p.m.
