Former Cougars standout Evelyn VanDeMark named assistant coach for USF Swimming

SIOUX FALLS – Former standout swimmer Evelyn VanDeMark has been named assistant coach for the University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team, according to an announcement today by USF Head Coach Chris Hamstra.

VanDeMark, an Alma, Mich., was part of four straight third place teams at the NSIC Swimming and Diving Championships. She was a seven-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference finalist in events ranging from 500 free to the 1,650 free. VanDeMark also served as a team captain during her sophomore junior and senior years at USF.

In her role as assistant coach, VanDeMark will assist with daily practices, recruiting, videotaping, home meet management, fund raising, student-athlete academic success, travel, compliance and other duties related to the sport of swimming.

"We are so excited to bring back Evelyn VanDeMark as our assistant coach for the 2021-2022 season," said Hamstra. "As a recent USF grad and outstanding swimmer, Evelyn is no stranger to the University of Sioux Falls and our program.  She will bring a fresh perspective and an immediate impact," he said.

While at USF, VanDeMark was named to the NSIC All-Academic three times and to the NSIC Academic Team of Excellence three times. In addition, she was a D2 ADA Academic Achievement recipient three times. In her career, she finished 27 times in the top five of an individual or relay event.

"I am honored and beyond excited to serve as an assistant coach for this awesome program," said VanDeMark, who earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a Bachelor of Science in exercise science in spring of 2021 from USF.
