MARSHALL – The USF volleyball team fell to (#8) Southwest Minnesota State tonight, but was able to take a set away from the Mustangs in the process.
USF at SMSU (12-25, 18-25, 25-22, 17-25)
· Attack: Courtney Holsteen once again led the Cougars tonight with 10 kills followed by Grace Hanel (9) and Brooklynne Albrecht (8). USF landed a total of 45 kills on the night.
· Service Line: Sioux Falls landed five aces on the Mustangs led by freshmen Elise Gillen and Davis Guetterman with two each and Sadie Voss with one.
· Team Effort: Caitlin Kellner led the Coo with 12 digs this evening followed by Sadie Voss (9) and Elise Gillen (5). Guetterman (18) and Gillen (17) tallied 35 of the Cougars 41 assists on the night with the help of Kellner with five.
· Standing Tall: USF put down five blocks on SMSU led by Jordan Kuper (3), Albrecht (2) and Hanel (2).
Overall
· The Cougars averaged a .235 attacking percentage on the evening with 45 kills, 40 digs and 55 points.
· USF sits 7th in the NSIC standings with an overall record of 9-7 and a conference record of 5-4.
· Sioux Falls will look to bounce back as they hit the road this weekend to take on the University of Mary (3-14, 2-7 NSIC) and Minot State (0-16, 0-9 NSIC).
