SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls men's basketball team fell to Pittsburg State, 74-82, in their final game of the weekend going 1-1 in the Central Region Challenge.
WHAT HAPPENED
· The Cougars fell behind early starting the game off 0-10, but were never out of the fight.
· The biggest deficit USF saw game in the second half when they trailed 46-60, but pulled the Gorillas within one with 1:46 remaining in the game.
· Chase Grinde tallied a season high 24 points going 6-6 at the line and 9-13 from the field while pulling down 12 rebound for the Coo.
· Jake Kettner was the second leading scorer for Sioux Falls picking up 12 points on the day followed by Matt Cartwright with 10.
SIOUX FALLS LEADERS
· Grinde, Kettner and Cartwright led the Cougars in points collecting 46 of USFs 74 points on the day.
· Jack Thompson picked off three steals on the day all of which came in the second half of today's game. Thompson also dished out nine assists for the Cougars.
· Matt Cartwright and Mason Steele led Sioux Falls each with blocks on the day
· Along with Grinde's season high 12 rebounds, Jack Thompson, Matt Cartwright and Noah Puetz each pulled in five of their own for USF.
TEAM STATISTICS
· USF went 28-71 from the field, 7-27 from beyond the arch and 11-14a from the free throw line.
· Sioux Falls ends the weekend shooting .454 from the field, .366 from three point territory and .813 from the free throw line.
UP NEXT
Sioux Falls (1-1) is back home Thursday night to take Dakota State at 7:00 p.m. in the Stewart Center. USF and DSU will meet up for the 10th time this week with USF holding a 6-3 series lead.
