Cougar Basketball Defeats South Dakota Mines 64-57

SIOUX FALLS – The USF Women's Basketball team defeated the Hardrockers of South Dakota Mines, 64-57, tonight to advance to 2-2 on the year.

WHAT HAPPENED

·         USF forced 14 points in the first quarter to open tonight's game against SDSMT.

·         USF saw six lead changes in the first quarter, but never fell behind again controlling a lead over the Hardrockers for roughly 28 minutes tonight.

·         Both teams saw quite a few turnovers on the evening with 38 combined on the night.

·         Sioux Falls converted 14 points on turnovers against SD Mines and five on fast breaks.

SIOUX FALLS LEADERS

·         Once again, Megan Fannin paved the way with 17 points on the night while dishing out two assists.

·         Dallie Hoskinson was the second leading scorer for the Cougars with 12 points and two steals.

·         Olivia Gamoke came away with six rebound on the evening followed by Madison Birnbaum with five. Gamoke also had two assists and two steals on the day.

TEAM STATISTICS

·         Sioux Falls shot 35.1% from the field and 81.8% from the free throw line with Fannin sinking 6-7 and Sidney Swanson going 4-4. The Cougars only missed four free throws on the night, all of which came in the second half.

·         The Cougars made a season high 18 free throws on the night.

·         USF heads into the weekend averaging 64 points a game while outscoring their opponents 256-234.

UP NEXT

Sioux Falls (2-2) hits the road to take on the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State in their first NSIC match-up of the season. The two have faced off 21 times since the 2011 season with USF holding a 17-4 series lead.
