Cougars shine on Day 3 of NSIC S&D Championship; set a meet record, post 6 B cuts

Sioux Falls, SD - Day 3 of the NSIC Swimming and Diving Championship concluded with the University of Sioux Falls Swimming team residing in 4th place. The final day of the championship begins tomorrow at 10am.

 

Heading into the home stretch, USF has scored 401.5 points while Minnesota State Mankato leads all teams for the third consecutive day after amassing 725.5 points. St. Cloud State holds onto 2nd place with 608 points with Augustana in 3rd at 537.5 points. The remaining teams stack up in the following order; 5th- Minnesota State Moorhead 6th- Northern State 7th-U-Mary 8th- Concordia St. Paul.

 

Day 3 included multiple shining performances from the Cougars including more NCAA B standard times and a new meet record!

 

During the prelims of the 100 Breast, Inte Pas achieved an NCAA B standard time of 1:04:00. Later in the finals, Pas placed 5th with a B cut time of 1:03.82. These mark her 2nd & 3rd B standard times in the event on the year with her first coming on Nov. 19 at the Augie Invite with a time of 1:03.28. 

 

Ilinde du Plessis recorded a time of 55.72 in the 100 Back prelims which cracked the NCAA B standard mark. The time is the 15th best in DII and propelled du Plessis to her 5th career NSIC final. She followed up the mark by placing 7th in the finals with a time of 57.02.

 

Also during the 100 Back prelims, Elizabeth Spaans clocked in at 56.15 to draw another B standard time for USF. During the finals, Spaans improved her time to 55.85 and captured 3rd place along with All-Conference Honors. While both her times in the event fell short of her career best 55.55, both were B cuts.

 

Domenica Solano also swam well in the 100 Back finals as she posted a B cut time of 56.40 and took 4th place.

 

The Cougars 800 Free Relay A team edged Augustana to win the event with a time of 7:34.58. The team of Sarah Knox, Ilinde du Plessis, Lizzy Spaans, and Valerie Childs bested the previous record held by a past USF squad of Childs, Van De Mark, Marcon, and Johnson by .78 of a second. The victory granted all four swimmers All-Conference Honors!

1st - Knox, du Plessis, Spaans, Childs - 7:34.58

12th - Ford, Natalia Escalante, Kayla Sayovitz, Giulia Marcon - 8:13.09

 

The final day of the 2022 NSIC Swimming and Diving Championship will conclude tomorrow, Feb. 12. The first session will begin at 10:30am and be followed by 1m diving prelims at 1pm. The championship will conclude at 5:30pm with finals for the following events: 1650 Free, 100 IM, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 1-Meter diving, and the 400 Free Relay.
