Grant Hieb, USF Baseball HC
"While our seniors will not have the opportunity to play their final season at Sioux Falls Stadium, in the long-term it's going to be a huge upgrade for our home ballpark," said USF Head Baseball Coach
Grant Hieb, whose USF Baseball program has called Sioux Falls Stadium home for the past five years. "Being a southern school in the NSIC means hosting ballgames in mid-March, and typically the Stadium wasn't ready to play at that time because the infield was too soft. Often, we moved our home games to a field with an artificial playing surface," he said.
Hieb noted the cooperation of the Brandon Valley Baseball Association, noting how they have stepped up to offer USF a place to play and complete.
"We are very grateful to them. Several times in the past few years we have gone over to First National Bank Field in Brandon to play our home games. The Brandon Valley Baseball Association has done a great job with the renovation of their ballpark and adding turf to the infield. We've enjoyed playing there and are very thankful for them letting us play our homes game there this spring," said Hieb.
USF Baseball opens its home and league schedule with eight straight games, which is led off by the three-game series against UMC. Next, USF will play Minot State on March 23 for two games. USF also has a three-game set with Southwest Minnesota State on March 26-27 and then another two-game mid-week series with Northern State on March 30.
After a 10-game road trip, USF returns home for three against Concordia St. Paul on April 15-16.
