Sioux Falls, SD - The University of Sioux Falls Men's Golf team earns its first title of the season at the Augustana Invite. Evan, Metz and Vasa shine.
The Cougars played in their own backyard this weekend at the Elmwood Golf course in Sioux Falls, SD. The home "green" advantage showed as USF posted spectacular scores across the board.
Jack Evans dominated the entire way as he carded 68 and 67 on the par 72. Evans' scores were the best round scores of the entire tournament as well as career best rounds and two-round total for the senior.
Gavin Metz reminded the field why he was Newcomer of the Year last year by taking 3rd at just one-over par.
Bronson Vasa also played spectacularly en route to a six-over 150 that landed him 5th, his highest finish at USF.
USF entered the second day in a 3-way tie for the lead. A 14-stroke improvement rocketed the Cougars past host Augustana and the fierce competition from Dakota Wesleyan. A final score of 29-over 605 (308-297) ended up one stroke better than Dakota Wesleyan as the Coo claimed there first team title this season. The remainder of the field closed as follows; Augustana 33-over 609 (308-301), Minnesota State 53-over 629 (322-307), and Augustana (B) 55-over 631 (326-305).
Individually,
Jack Evans stood in a league all his own with his nine-under 135 (68-67). The senior only carded two holes over par (both bogeys) the entire tournament while posting 11 birdies and 23 pars.
Gavin Metz also played his best tournament of the year as he claimed third at one-over 145 (71-74). Metz followed Evans example and only went over on four holes the entire tournament (all bogeys) with a total of three birdies and 29 pars. 2nd place was claimed by Blake Schaper of South Dakota State who played as an individual and scored four-under 140 (71-69).

Gavin Metz - 3rd - one-over 145 (71-74) - round 1: one birdie and 14 pars, round 2: two birdies and 15 pars, total: three birdies and 29 pars
