Sioux Falls, SD – The University of Sioux Falls Athletics Department will hold its annual Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, September 23, 2022. Two teams and seven individuals will be inducted into the University of Sioux Falls Athletics Hall of Fame as the Class of 2022.
 
The event will be held at the Belbas Theater of the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls on Friday, September 23 with a 6:30 pm social followed by the induction ceremony at 7:30 pm. As part of Cougar Days, the USF Football team will host the University of Minnesota Duluth at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 24 at Bob Young Field. The 2022 Hall of Fame Class will include the 2010-2011 Women's Basketball Team, the 1988 Football Team, and the following individuals; Kayla (Friesen) Coffee, Leo Fenceroy, Laura Johnson, Colin Koth, Dax Michelena, Joel Running, and Tavia Rutherford. ~2010-11 Women's Basketball Team – Led by Head Coach Travis Traphagen, USF's 2010-11 Women's Basketball Team won a school record 27 games en route to a NAIA National Tournament berth in which the team made it to the Elite Eight. Top performers on the team included juniors Vanessa Johnson, Jamey Hofer, Betsy Hildreth and freshman Laura Johnson (also being inducted as an individual in Fall 2022). USF outscored opponents by an average of 16 points per game and had a 13-4 league mark with an 11-2 record at home.

~1988 Football Team – Led by Hall of Fame Head Coach Bob Young, USF's 1988 Football Team was the first USF football team to have an unbeaten regular season in school history going undefeated in SDIC play and finishing the year with a 10-1 mark. Bob Young was named SDIC Coach of the Year, USF Linebacker Bob Booth was named the SDIC's Most Valuable Player. The Cougars placed 10 players on the All-SDIC Team including previous USF Hall of Fame individual inductees: Booth, Ed Koester, Jim Pehringer and Rowe.

~Kayla (Friesen) Coffee –A native of Alliance, NE, Kayla (Friesen) Coffee finished fourth at the 2013 NCAA DII Indoor Championships and was named an All-American in pole vault. Coffee accumulated All-American status in seven of the eight national championships she appeared in. During her career from 2008-2013, Coffee claimed five conference titles at USF; 2009 GPAC Indoor, 2009 GPAC Outdoor, 2010 GPAC Indoor, 2011 GPAC Outdoor, and 2013 NSIC Outdoor.
 
~Leo Fenceroy – A native of Sioux City, IA, Leo Fenceroy transferred to USF and made an impact in his two seasons as a defensive back and a punt returner for the Cougars from 2001-2003.  Fenceroy was a two-time NAIA All-American and ranks in the top ten in defensive categories at USF with four forced fumbles and 15 interceptions.
 
~Laura Johnson –A native of Cedar Falls, IA, Laura Johnson was a forward on the USF Women's Basketball team from 2010-2014. Johnson was GPAC Freshman of the Year in 2010-2011 on the Elite 8 team and was named All-NSIC First Team in 2013 and 2014. Johnson ranks in the top ten at USF in career points (finishing with 1,402 points), rebounds, made three-pointers, and assists.
 
~Colin Koth – A native of Sioux Falls, Colin Koth was a sprinter on the USF Track & Field team from 2008-13.  Koth claimed the 400m title at the NAIA Indoor Championships in 2011. Koth set multiple school records in the 200m, 400m, and 4x400 meter relay. Koth was named GPAC Indoor Athlete-of- the-Meet in 2009 and was All-American three times during his career.
 
~Dax Michelena – A native of Sheridan, WY, Dax Michelena was a quarterback on the USF Football Team from 1997-2001. For fifteen years, Michelena held the USF school record for total offense in a season. Michelena was All GPAC as a junior and the GPAC Player-of-the-Year in 2001 leading the Cougars to a GPAC title and a National Runner-up finish. He is second in rushing yards by a QB in school history with his 2,755 yards also ranking ninth among all positions. He ranks in the top three in passing TD's, passing yards, passing attempts, and in completions. Michelena was named First Team All-Conference in 1997 and 1998.

~Joel Running – A native of Valley Springs, SD, Joel Running was a member of the USF Men's Basketball from 1985-88. After transferring from South Dakota State, Running played three seasons at USF, including a standout senior season, earning All-SDIC honors after averaging 21.1 points and 10 rebounds per game for a squad that won the SDIC Tournament title. Running finished his Cougar career with an outstanding made field goal percentage of 54.79%.

~Tavia Rutherford – A native of Bakersfield, CA, Tavia Rutherford was on the USF Women's Golf team from 2011-15. Rutherford was the first USF golfer to reach the NCAA DII Central Regional tournament with her berth in 2013, she would earn a spot in the regional twice more during her career (2014, 2015). During 2015, she became the first USF golfer to reach the NCAA DII National Tournament. A three-time All-NSIC honoree, Rutherford was also USF's first-ever NSIC Golfer-of-the-Year. She was named the DII NCAA Elite 89 Award winner (highest GPA of a National Tournament participant) in 2014-15.
