BISMARCK – After the first round of the Marauder Invitational the University of Sioux Falls Men's Golf team leads the field.
Devon Verhasselt leads the Cougars and all golfers.
In the Cougars second tournament of the year the newcomers are showing out. Verhasselt dominated in the first round with his two-under 70 that places him in 1
st at the end of day 1. After shooting 75 and 78 during the first tournament of the year, the freshman is showing he is one of the top golfers at USF already.
Mason Weeks, who led the Cougars in the last tournament, continued his hot start with a two-over 74 in this one. Another freshman also played well today,
Mats Lund made his USF debut with a six-over 78.
Jimmy Clark and
Cole Harste also had solid outings with scores of 76 and 77 respectively.
Anthony Cylkowski carded an 86 while
Austin Boomsma scored an 81.
As a team the Cougars shot nine-over 297 on the par 72 Riverwood Golf Course. 297 tops both rounds the Cougars shot to open the season and it lands them in 1
st place with a two stroke lead after day 1. U Mary holds second in their own tournament at 299 while Alexandria Tech's team 'A' is in third with 304.
The 2
