Men’s Golf dominates en route to a team title at the Marauder Invitational

BISMARCK – The University of Sioux Falls Men's Golf team exits Bismarck, ND with their first team title of the season. Five Cougars place in the top 10.
 
After leading the Marauder Invitational heading into round two, the Cougars finished strong to take home the team title. As a team USF posted the top score of each round with a 2 stroke lead in the first (297) and a six stroke lead in the second (311) as they beat out host UMary by 12 strokes. In total the Coo shot a 32-over 608. UMary barely held onto the 2nd spot as they shot 44-over 620 (299-321) with Alexandria Tech making a late push but falling just short with their 45-over 621 (304-317).
 
"That was a really good win for the guys with a lot of great performances," Said Head Coach Wade Merry", "Mason played himself into a great position and barely missed the playoff. Devon really showed what he can do for this team in the first round. Jimmy and Cole had great rounds too, they showed how much they improved since their first year. Mats had a solid showing to begin his USF career. I'm excited for and proud of the team, we can ride this confidence boost through the season. We've proven we can play well, now it's time to prove we can do it consistently." 


On the individual side, five Cougars cracked the top-10 with Mason Weeks coming just a stroke away from being in the 1st place playoff. Weeks followed his first round 74 with the top score of the second round, a 75 which gave him a five-over 149. Devon Verhasselt rode his first round 70 (the best score in the event) to a fifth place tie after shooting 83 and finishing at nine-over 153. Jimmy Clark and Cole Harste tied for 7th with scores of 10-over 154. Clark shot 76 and 78 while Harste shot 78 and 77. Mats Lund closed his first collegiate tournament with a solid 78 each round to place him 10th with a 12-over 156. Austin Boomsma tied for 17th behind his 19-over 163 (81-82). Tied for 26th was Anthony Cylkowski with a 23-over 167 (86-81).
