MARSHALL, MINN. – Cougar Volleyball hit the road for a midweek matchup against #7 Southwest Minnesota State tonight. USF opened the match with a 25-18 first set victory, but dropped tonight's match 3-1.
Sadie Voss had a lights out night as she recorded her second 20-kill match of the season. Voss led USF through the first set with seven kills on 14 attempts followed by Courtney Holsteen with three. The Cougars held the Mustangs to a .178 attacking percentage to open tonights match while averaging .355 and putting down two blocks.
Jordyn Hamm (4) and Jordan Kuper (3) combined for seven of the teams 10 kills in set two while Kuper had the teams only solo block. USF saw 32 total attacks through the set and just three errors, but SMSU took set two 25-15.
Kuper (5) and Voss (4) teamed up for nine of the Cougars 12 kills in set three, but USF struggled with 11 errors. Kuper and Voss also paired up for the teams only block in set three before falling 25-16.
Voss finished set four with seven kills on 12 attacks for a .417 attacking percentage while topping off the night with 20 kills, nine digs and three assisted blocks. Kuper followed up with 12 kills on the night while recording the teams only two solo blocks along with three assisted. Elise Gillen tabbed her seventh double-double of the season with 43 assists and 13 digs.
The Cougars will be back in action this weekend as they continue their road series against MSU Moorhead and Northern State.
