SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls women's basketball team lost a hard fought battle tonight against #12 MSU Mankato 71-61.
WHAT HAPPENED
· The Cougars started slowly in the first half losing the first quarter by 13, but were able to fight back and make it a competitive game until the very end.
· USF came out of the halftime locker room with some momentum, winning the second half 39-34.
· The Cougars move to 6-18 overall and 3-15 in conference play.
SIOUX FALLS LEADERS
· The Coo was led by Olivia Gamoke with 21 points on 10-17 shooting, and Riley Moreland poured in 19 points on 6-8 shooting.
· Dallie Hoskinson led the Cougars with a game high 11 rebounds.
· Brecli Honner, Madison Wuebben, and Riley Moreland each tallied 3 assists to lead USF.
TEAM STATISTICS
· The Cougars shot 43% from the field and 31% from behind the arc. Mankato shot 38% from the field and only 22% from 3.
· The Coo also had an advantage in the rebounding category grabbing 43 boards compared to 39 by Mankato.
· The Maverick pressure was ramped up throughout the game leading to 29 turnovers by USF. Compared to 16 by MSU.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend when Winona State and Upper Iowa come to the Stewart Center. The men's game will be played first at 5:30pm followed by the women's game at 7:30pm on February 10 against Winona State.
