CLERMONT – The USF softball team hit the road to take part in The Spring Games held in Clermont, Florida. Today the Cougars took on Gannon University and California University of Pennsylvania. Sioux Falls came away with a split on day one with a 12-2 win over Gannon and a 6-3 loss to Cal (PA).
GAME ONE – GANNON
· Sioux Falls got their bats started early as they jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead.
· The Cougars went up 7-0 before giving up two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but quickly answered back and more when Rylie Jones hit an inside the park homerun off a bunt.
· USF forced Gannon to three pitching changes throughout the matchup but were able to pick up 12 runs off of eight hits.
· Kait Van Der Zwaag saw 4.0 in today's five inning matchup while forcing four strikeouts and giving up just two hits.
GAME TWO – CALIFORNIA (PA)
· USF had 14 hits against Cal (PA), but left 12 runners stranded on the bases.
· Rylie Jones led the Cougars with three hits against the Vulcans and crossed the plate once. Megan Lawson and Kylie Madrid were also able to tab two more runs for Sioux Falls.
· Thomas started on the mound for the Coo as she pitched 4.0 innings and 21 batters. Kennedy, Hanna Cress and Kait Van Der Zwaag combined for three strikeouts while forcing seven fly outs and nine ground outs.

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Findlay and Ashland in day two of The Spring Games.
