CLERMONT – The Sioux Falls softball team opened day two of The Spring Games against the University of Findlay and Ashland University. The Cougars fell short in game one against the Oilers falling 4-2, but came back with a booming 10-0 win over the Eagles in game two.
Sioux Falls moves to 5-8 on the season.
GAME ONE – FINDLAY
· Sioux Falls struck first when Lexie Swift drove a double to left field and was brought in off a double by Megan Lawson.
· Lawson led USF with two hits in four at bats while bringing in one RBI for the Cougars.
· Hanna Cress started in the circle for USF while picking up seven strikeouts and giving up just one walk.
GAME TWO – ASHLAND
· USF forced their first shutout of the season against the Eagles behind the arm of Kait Van Der Zwaag. Van Der Zwaag threw five innings while forcing two strikeouts and giving up just one walk and three hits.
· Sioux Falls scored first in the second inning, but continued to keep the bats hot when they scored seven runs in the fourth inning.
· Makenzie Weber made her debut at the plate going 2-for-3 with two singles and a stolen base.
· Van Der Zwaag and Swift each led with two RBIs apiece while Kelsey Pauli picked up her first career RBI for the Cougars.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Saint Rose and Kentucky Wesleyan in day three of The Spring Games.
