Wakefield, NE. – The University of Sioux Falls baseball team split two games with Northern State today. Northern won game 1 6-5 despite a valiant comeback effort by USF. The Coo took game 2 in a high scoring affair 26-17.
GAME ONE – L, 6-5
Northern State jumped on the Cougars early scoring 1 run in the 1st and tacking on 4 more in the 2nd.
The Coo scored 1 run in the top of the 2nd on a homerun by Dane Small.
USF was able to score 3 more runs via the longball. Tyler Cate in the 5th and David Swanson and Isaac Bonner in the 6th each hitting solo homers.
The Coo was able to tie the game in the 6th on a Noah Christenson Sac Fly. Northern answered in the bottom of the inning with a Sac Fly of their own to win the game.
David Swanson led the Cougars in hits with 2.
GAME TWO – W, 26-17
Brady Klehr hits for the cycle as the Cougar bats came alive in game 2. Klehr collected 5 hits in 7 ABs, while also recording 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.
USF put up a lot of crooked numbers scoring 6 runs in the 2nd, 4 in the 5th, and 9 in the 6th. The Coo outhit Northern 27-17. Brady Klehr led the way with 5. Tyler Cate, Noah Christenson, and Isaac Bonner each had 4 hits. 17 of the Cougar 27 hits were singles.
The Cougar batters recorded a lot of RBI as well. Isaac Bonner led the way with 6 while Noah Christenson and Brady Klehr had 4 each. Ben Serie also tallied 3 RBI and Weston Gjerde added 2.
USF also used the long ball to their advantage slugging 5 homeruns. Noah Christenson, Ben Serie, and Brady Klehr each hit 1. Isaac Bonner hit 2 for the Coo.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow against Northern State to finish up the weekend series. This will be a single game starting at 10AM and is being played at Wayne Ball Park in Wayne, NE.
