SIOUX CENTER, IA – The University of Sioux Falls softball team secured their first conference series sweep against Northern State University today. The Cougars move to 14-13 on the year with a conference record of 5-3. Following today's sweep, the Coo currently hold an overall record of 13 wins and 11 losses against the Wolves.
GAME ONE – W, 13-4
Sioux Falls jumped out to an early lead when Kait Van Der Zwaag blasted a three run homer over the left field fence to start the game.
The Cougars kept their bats hot as they took a 6-0 lead before the Wolves tagged on four runs in the bottom of the third before USF shut them out for the remainder of the game.
Sioux Falls finished the game with 13 runs off of 15 hits while only having one error throughout game one.
In front of her home crowd, Van Der Zwaag paved the way with three RBIs off two hits followed by Lexie Swift with two RBIs of her own on three hits.
The Cougars had five stolen bases during game one with Meghan Jochimsen recording two of them.
Hanna Cress started in the circle for the Cougars where she threw for 2.2 innings before Van Der Zwaag capped off the game and recorded her ninth win of the season. The two combined for two strikeouts while facing 27 batters.
GAME TWO – W, 1-0
Game two posed as a nail bitter before the Cougars finally put one on the board in the top of the fourth. Kennedy Thomas scored Meghan Jochimsen of a double down the fight field line.
The Cougars recorded three doubles on the day hit by Kylie Madrid, Megan Lawson and Kennedy Thomas, but left six stranded on the bases.
Once again, Sioux Falls wreaked havoc on the base path as they tallied three stolen bases in game two and nine throughout the day.
Hanna Cress pitched a full seven innings for the Coo in game two while giving up just three hits and facing 24 batters. Cress records her second win of the season.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action as they hit the road again tomorrow to take on the Dragons of Minnesota State – Moorhead. The two teams will face off at 12pm and 2pm in Sioux City, Iowa at Hubbard Park.
