5/9/2023 11:30:00 AM

BURNSVILLE, MN - Gavin's triumphant return in the Spring concludes with First Team All-Conference honors.

After not playing in the Fall of 2022 Gavin Metz returned to the tee in March and immediately reminded the Cougars why he was named an NSIC player to watch before the 2021-22 season. His first tournament back concluded with him tied for 4th behind two rounds of even or better scores as well as 12 birdies & 29 pars. Metz recorded his best outing of the year during the Augustana Spring Invitational where he claimed 2nd place and led the Coo to their only title of the year.

Head Coach Wade Merry: "This year Gavin proved he's still one of the top golfers in the conference. He's put together some strong performances in the past but consistently showed how great he is throughout this Spring. We're all really proud of him and I'm very excited to have him back to lead our team next year."

Gavin led the Cougars in every tournament during the Spring while never placing outside the top 11 golfers, recording three top-5 finishes, and racking up a total of 40 birdies and 141 pars. The Brainerd, MN native transferred from Augsburg College in 2020 and was named NSIC Newcomer of the Year in his first season at USF while helping the 2020-21 team achieve USF's first ever NCAA Regional berth.

Now at the conclusion of his best collegiate season, Metz has been named USF's lone All-Conference selection for 2022-23. The Junior was only one of 6 golfers across the NSIC to receive First Team honors, it was also his first time receiving All-Conference honors. USF doubles its tally of First Team All-Conference Men's Golfers as Gavin joins former golfer and current volunteer assistant coach, JJ Cooney, as the only Cougars to receive the honor.
