University of Sioux Falls Athletics Announces 2023 Hall of Fame Class

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Athletics Department will hold their annual Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Holiday Inn – City Centre Starlite Ballroom in downtown Sioux Falls. The University of Sioux Falls Hall of Fame Class of 2023 will include the 1982 Baseball Team, the 1992-94 Women's Cross Country Teams, Gene Brooks, Koln Fink, Jamey (Hofer) Jenkins, Kristin Kono and Stacy Kooistra.

Gene Brooks is a two-time GPAC Coach of the Year and known as one of the greatest coaches in USF Track & Field and Cross Country history. Over the course of six seasons, Brooks produced over 30 All-Americans along with 162 national qualifiers and three national champions. During his tenure, 88 school records were broken and in 2011 the women's program won their first conference title. Brooks is also a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame (2004) and Concordia University-Nebraska Hall of Fame (1996). He currently resides in Seward, Nebraska with his wife of 35 years, Janice, and youngest son Caden. Gene and Janice have four more adult children along with seven grandchildren. Gene serves as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Concordia University.

Koln Fink graduated in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and political science and competed for the men's wrestling team from 2006-2010. He is a three-time NAIA national qualifier as well as a three-time GPAC place winner. Fink holds USF school records in six categories, including career wins. In addition, Fink served as a team captain and received the NAIA Champions of Character Award during his senior campaign. Following graduation, Fink went on to obtain a law degree from the University of South Dakota in 2014 and now works at Myers-Billion, LLP in Sioux Falls where he resides with his wife, Molly, and their three children Maxine, Clayton and Cooper.

Jamey (Hofer) Jenkins graduated in 2012 with a bachelor's in exercise science while being a key member of the women's basketball program from 2008-2012. Jenkins was an all-conference athlete while also picking up GPAC Freshman of the Year and All-American Honorable Mention honors during her freshman campaign. She led the 2010-2011 team to the NAIA National Championship tournament with a 27-6 record and sits within the top-10 on the USF career scoring chart. Jamey serves as an Instructional Designer for Regions Bank and resides in Hartford, South Dakota with her husband, Andrew, and their four children Hunter, Weslee, Rhys and Rowyn.

Kristin Kono graduated in 2006 with a bachelor's in elementary education. She was a member of both the softball and women's basketball teams from 2002-2006. Kono was a four-time All-GPAC athlete for softball and set a school record with a career batting average of .396. She earned NAIA All-Region III and NAIA First Team All-Region IV honors. Kono was also a member of the women's basketball NAIA final four team and sits third all-time with 315 career assists. Kono resides in Sioux Falls where she works at United Parcel Service.

Stacy Kooistra joined the men's basketball team from 1992-1994 after transferring from the University of South Dakota. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1994 and went on to obtain his master's and law degree. Kooistra is a two-time All-SDIC athlete who served as a team captain while helping USF to a then school record of 21-8 as well as a No. 3 national ranking during his senior year. He finished his career with five 30-point games and one 40-point games while averaging over 10 rebounds a game and sits amongst the top-20 in career scoring at USF. Kooistra took his talents overseas where he played professional basketball for Ockelbo Basketball Club in Sweden. Kooistra served as the Sioux Falls City Attorney from 2018-2023 and is now the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel for the Dakota State University Applied Research Corporation. He also serves in the South Dakota Air National Guard while rising to the rank of Colonel. Stacy and his wife, Anna, live in Brandon, South Dakota where they have four children, Isabel, Oscar, Owen and Emmett.

1982 Baseball 

The 1982 Sioux Falls College baseball team went 15-11 en route to a South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference (SDIC) title by winning five consecutive games and the deciding game over Dakota State, 3-2. Top performers on the team included Mike Richardson, Doug DeJong, Les Gunn and Bel Kennerly. SFC maintained a .342 team batting average while averaging eight runs per game to become just one of three men's teams to win a conference title.

1992-94 Women's Cross Country 

Under the leadership of coach Scott Kieffer and USF Hall of Fame coach Rich Greeno, the 1992-94 University of Sioux Falls women's cross country teams secured three consecutive conference championships in their first four years of competition. Amy Birkeland holds the only individual title in USF history with a time of 18:31.
