Cougar Volleyball Splits on Day Two of Kansas City Klassic

LIBERTY, MO. – The USF Volleyball team split on day two of the Kansas City Klassic. The Cougars dropped game one, 3-1, to Emporia State then capped the day with a 3-0 victory over William Jewell.

SIOUX FALLS vs EMPORIA STATE (25-17, 23-25, 13-25, 22-25)

·       Attack: USF led the attack game with 50 kills against the Hornets led by sophomore Courtney Holsteen with 11 along with Jordan Kuper and Sadie Voss with nine.

·       Service Line: The Cougars sent five aces over the net against ESU with Elise Gillen and Davis Guetterman recording two and freshman Kyleigh Tangen with one.

·       Team Effort: Gillen (25) and Guetterman (15) combined for 40 of the USFs 47 assists while Caitlin Kellner recorded four assists and 10 digs for the Coo.

·       Standing Tall: Jordyn Hamm put down five blocks against the Hornets to put her just shy of 200 career blocks throughout her career.

SIOUX FALLS vs WILLIAM JEWELL (25-18, 25-21, 25-19)

·       Attack: Once again, the Cougars put down 50 kills as they took on the Cardinals in three sets. Holsteen recorded 12 in game two followed by junior Grace Hanel with 11 and Voss with 10. USF continued to grow on their attack game as they finished three sets with a .342 attacking percentage.

·       Service Line: Voss (2), Gillen (1), Guetterman (1) and freshman Faith Van Eck (1) recorded all five of USFs aces against WJC.

·       Team Effort: Gillen once again recorded 25 assists bringing her to 50 assists on the day, followed by Guetterman with 17. Voss recorded 12 digs in game two followed by Kellner adding 11 on the day.

·       Standing Tall: Kuper carried the front line with seven blocks against the Cardinals followed by Voss (2) and Hanel (1).

OVERALL

·       USF recorded 100 kills on the day across seven sets along with 10 aces, 15 total blocks and 105 digs.

·       The Cougars held Emporia State to a .163 attacking percentage and William Jewell to an attack percentage of .168.

·       Sioux Falls moves to 1-2 on the season and will look to take on No. 13 Northwest Missouri State tomorrow at 10am to cap off their weekend road series at the Kansas City Klassic.
