WINONA, MINN. – The USF Volleyball team fell 3-1 against Winona State in their first NSIC matchup of the 2023 season.
The Cougars struck first to start the match, but the Worries quickly answered back with five unanswered points and led for the majority of the first set. Winona State ended up taking the first set 25-22, but Sioux Falls forced 17 kills on the Warriors off of 53 attacks.
WSU took set two 25-17 while holding USF to just a .051 attacking percentage and one block.
Sioux Falls responded in the third set when they put back four blocks while landing 14 kills on 43 attempts for a .256 attacking percentage, their highest of the match. The Cougars went on to win set three 25-18 before falling in the fourth set 25-19.
USF was once again led by sophomore, and USF Athlete of the Week, Sadie Voss with 12 kills on the night followed by Jordan Kuper and Jordyn Hamm with nine. Kuper and Hamm also led the team at the net combining for four solo and four assisted blocks.
Elise Gillen dished out 23 assists for the Coo followed by Davis Guetterman with 18. Gillen also recorded 13 digs on the evening just behind Caitlin Kellner with 15.

The Cougars moves to 4-5 on the season and 0-1 in NSIC play as they return home to host Southwest Minnesota State in their home opener this Saturday, September 16. The match is set to begin at 2:00pm at the Stewart Center where the first 100 fans will receive a 2023 Volleyball Schedule poster that the players will be able to sign following the match!
