Cougars Push #7 Wayne State to the Brink but Fall in 5

WAYNE, NEB. - USF Volleyball (12-8, 7-5 NSIC) faced a tough battle against #7 Wayne State (18-4, 11-2 NSIC), falling 3-2 this evening.

MATCH RECAP 

The opening set was tightly contested, featuring numerous ties and lead changes, with Wayne State narrowly edging out USF 26-24. The Cougars bounced back in the second set, winning 25-20, thanks to aggressive serving and solid defensive plays. Wayne State regained the upper hand in the third set, securing a 25-22 win. However, USF fought back fiercely in the fourth set, winning 25-17. In the decisive fifth set, both teams battled, but Wayne State ultimately prevailed 15-11. 

Sadie Voss delivered an outstanding performance, leading the team with 20 kills, 24 digs, and 2 service aces. Aubrey Gates was a key offensive force, adding 18 kills and 9 digs, while Jordan Kuper contributed 17 kills and 4 blocks, making her presence felt at the net. Elise Gillen was pivotal in orchestrating the offense, tallying an impressive 59 assists and contributing defensively with 10 digs. Faith Van Eck anchored the back row with 20 digs. Courtney Holsteen was effective both offensively and defensively, adding 10 kills and 4 blocks.   

The Cougars registered 70 kills and 82 digs, showing their offensive and defensive strength. They also had 6 total blocks, a hitting percentage of .204, 66 assists, and 9 service aces.

Cougars will return home to take on Winona State on Thursday, October 31st at 6pm at the Stewart Center.
