BAYAMÓN, P.R. - The Cougars cruised to a 79-42 victory over Catholic University in their final game in Puerto Rico.
Megan Fannin scored 19 points to power the Cougars' dominant performance.
1ST QUARTER
The game began with a strong defensive play and a turnover.
Aby Phipps scored an impressive and-one basket despite tight defensive pressure, though she missed the free throw. After securing multiple offensive rebounds,
Ayla Brown capitalized with a wing three-pointer.
Anna Vaaler followed with her own and-one drive, helping the team build an early 8-0 lead.
Catholic University responded with a deep three-pointer, and
Kami Wadsworth answered with a smooth layup. The rapid back-and-forth play left the Cougars narrowly leading 10-9 at the first media timeout.
Out of the break,
Alexis Rose extended the lead with two free throws.
Drew Buslee set up
Gracie Traphagen for another three, while
Megan Fannin and Brown each added points through aggressive drives and successful free throws. Phipps continued the momentum with an offensive rebound and two more free throws, closing the quarter with a 22-13 lead.
2ND QUARTER
In the second quarter, Phipps sparked the offense with a corner three-pointer. Brown immediately followed with a steal and a quick layup. Phipps then found Wadsworth for an open jumper in the short corner, maintaining the Cougars' momentum at 29-18.
After a timeout,
Brecli Honner scored on a putback, and Fannin responded with back-to-back three-pointers. Buslee assisted Fannin on another wing three, effectively breaking open the zone defense. The Cougars dominated the quarter, taking a commanding 40-21 lead into halftime.
3RD QUARTER
Wadsworth started the quarter by scoring two free throws after being fouled in the paint. Vaaler then found Wuebben for an open corner three. Wadsworth continued her strong play, drawing more fouls and hitting free throws, then assisting Traphagen on a cutting layup.
Buslee and Fannin connected for a floating jumper, while Rose set up Fannin for a transition reverse layup. Fanning stayed hot, hittting a three-pointer that expanded the Cougars' lead to 56-31.
Catholic University increased their defensive pressure, but Brown responded with a three-pointer and a fast-break layup. The Cougars' floor spacing created an opportunity for
Landree Wilson to cut to the basket. They closed the third quarter leading 63-38.
4TH QUARTER
Buslee opened the fourth quarter with an offensive rebound and putback. Honner followed with a batted ball finish and then a corner three-pointer, pushing the lead to 70-41.
Brooklyn Harpe showcased her rebounding skills, converting an offensive rebound with a free throw. Buslee added a transition layup, and Harpe again found Wilson cutting for a basket.
Hannah Harpe continued the assist trend, setting up another Wilson basket. Traphagen completed the scoring with a final offensive rebound putback, sealing the Cougars' 79-42 victory.
