Denver, Colo. - The University of Sioux Falls Baseball team picked up their first win of the year. They defeated MSU Denver on Opening Day 6-3.
Reese Gaber got the start on the mound for USF and picked up the win. He went 4.1 innings giving up 3 runs. He picked up 5 strikeouts as well. The Cougar bullpen came in and did not give up a run in relief of Gaber. Derek Lundgren went 2.1 and Zachary Shastay went 1.1 innings of shut out relief. Logan Anderson pitched an inning and picked up the save.
Brady Klehr led USF in hitting. He picked up 3 hits in 5 at bats while totalling 1 RBI and 1 run scored. David Swanson, Noah Christenson, and Ben Serie each added 2 hits. Swanson also scored 2 runs from the leadoff spot.
The Cougars had a lot of success on the basepaths. USF stole 4 bases total with David Swanson accounting for 2 of them. Catcher Ryan Gouldin caught 1 MSU Denver stealing as well.
The Cougars lineup totaled 5 RBI and 2 walks. USF had 9 strikeouts and left 6 runners on base.
