EMPORIA, KAN. - Sioux Falls Softball split on the second day of the action at the Emporia State 5-State Classic. The Coo fell in game one, 6-4, to Missouri-St. Louis before settling a,4-3, nailbiter against Maryville in game two.
GAME 1 - MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS
Meghan Jochimsen and Riley Schwisow put the Coo on the board first when Jochimsen roped a triple to right center to score Emma Barta. Schwisow followed suit with a single to right center to score Jochimsen to put USF up 2-0.
Damaris Cuevas tacked on a RBI double in the bottom of the 6th before Alannah Naumann singled up the middle for another RBI.
Schwisow was the lone Coo in game one to tally two hits against the Tritons along with two stolen bases.
Bailee Lampman recorded the 6-4 loss pitching 3.1 innings followed by Kate Kotlarz for 2.2 innings and Campbell Petrick throwing for 1.0 inning. The staff as a whole recorded two strikeouts in 37 batters faced.
USF put up 7 hits and 4 runs against the Tritons but struggled with four errors.
GAME 2 - MARYVILLE
Schwisow opened the game with a RBI sac fly following a single by Emma Barta and a double by Hannah Fry.
The Saints tacked on three runs to take a 3-1 lead before the Cougars responded in the 7th with a 2-run double off the bat of Naumann to tie the game at 3 apiece. Hannah Fry sent a single to right field to score Naumann while USF closed out the game with a 4-3 victory.
Maddi Duncan picked up the complete game win with 7.0 innings pitched and six strikeouts against 29 batters faced.
Sioux Falls tallied 6 hits against the Saints while bringing in 4 runs..

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow when they face Concordia-St. Paul and Emporia State to close out their weekend.
