EMPORIA, KAN. - Cougar Softball fell in two close matchups today to close out the Emporia State Classic. USF fell to Concordia-St. Paul, 11-10, in extra innings followed by a 3-2 loss to Emporia State.
GAME 1 - CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL
Riley Schwisow got the bats going in the third with a two run shot over center field. The freshman went 4-for-5 at the plate with 5 RBIs to open the day. Megan Lawson added her own solo home run in the fourth. Lawson also went 4-for-5 at the plate with a homerun and a double while tacking on 2 RBIs for the Coo. Meghan Jochimsen and Schwisow recorded a stolen base apiece for USF against the Golden Bears.
In the high scoring affair, USF took a 10-6 lead in the top of the 8th before CSP responded with 5 runs to close out the game.
Campbell Petrick started in the circle for Sioux Falls throwing for 6.1 innings with two strikeouts. Olivia Ott came in to throw 1.0 inning for the Coo.
GAME 2 - EMPORIA STATE
In a tough battle at the plate, the Cougars crossed the plate in the 2nd and 6th innings with just five total hits throughout the game.
Damaris Cuevas went 2-for-2 at the plate with a RBI in the 6th while Alannah Naumann and Schwisow recorded two stolen bases in game. Schwisow finished the weekend 5-for-5 in stolen bases and currently leads the conference in stolen bases on the year with six.Â
Maddi Duncan pitched all 6-innings for Sioux Falls with three strikeouts. Duncan finished the weekend 2-1 in the circle with 19 strikeouts in 18.0 innings pitched. She currently leads the NSIC in strikeouts, strikeouts looking and wins.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action next week when they head south to compete in the Washburn Invitational. USF will open the weekend on Friday against Southwest Baptist at 10am followed by a rematch with Rockhurst at 4pm.Â
