Denver, Colo. - The University of Sioux Falls Baseball team split a doubleheader yesterday with MSU Denver. USF took the first game 15-12 and MSU Denver took game 2 5-3.
GAME 1
Jake Ammann got the start for USF and threw 2.0 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and had 2 strikeouts. Freshman Myles Rees came on in relief and threw 3 innings. Rees gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 strikeout. Jack Richeson and Jake Pruchniak both came on in relief as well and combined for 1.1 innings while giving up 7 runs. Derek Lundgren came in to get the save, throwing 0.2 innings of shutout baseball.
USF was dominant at the plate from the jump. The Coo scored 8 runs in the top of the first inning to blow the game open right away. David Swanson was in the leadoff spot and produced in a big way. He had 4 hits and 4 RBI in 6 ABs. Dane Small and Brady Klehr each recorded 3 hits. Small and Ryan Gouldin each accounted for 3 RBI as well.
The Cougars were aggressive on the basepaths as they stole 5 bases in this game. David Swanson tallied 2 of those SBs. USF had 12 RBI, 2 Home Runs, 5 walks, 6 strikeouts, and left 6 on base.
GAME 2
Owen Weadge got the start for USF in game 2. He went 4.1 innings while giving up 5 runs and recording 3 strikeouts. Logan Anderson came out of the USF Bullpen in relief and threw 1.2 innings. He gave up 2 hits but no runs and recorded 1 strikeout.
The Cougars were a lot more quiet at the plate in game 2. Swanson, Noah Christenson, Ben Serie, and Isaac Bonner each recorded a hit. Christenson accounted for 2 RBI. Rhett Zelinsky scored 2 runs.
Swanson and Serie each stole bases in this game. USF had 2 strikeouts and left 4 on base while only recording 4 hits for the game.
UP NEXT
The Cougars are back in action Friday February 23. They will be in Rolla, MO. to take on Missouri S&T starting at Noon.
