TOPEKA, KAN. - Sioux Falls Softball opened the day against No. 18 Pittsburg State falling 8-0 in five innings played. The Cougars bounced back with a 1-0 win over Fort Hays State to close out day two of the Washburn Invite. USF advances to 7-8 on the season.
GAME 1 - No. 18 PITTSBURG STATE
Hannah Fry and Rylee Riesberg were the lone Cougars with hits in game one. Riesberg singled to left field in the top of the 3rd while Fry singled to left in the top of the 4th.
Riley Schwisow had the one stolen base for USF in the top of the 3rd.
Kate Kotlarz started in the circle for the Coo, pitching 1.2 innings and facing 13 batters before relief pitcher Olivia Ott closed out the game with 2.1 innings pitched and 10 batters faced.
GAME 2 - FORT HAYS STATE
Three Cougars recorded hits in game two for USF led by Schwisow, Kenzie Raymond and Taryn Wagner. Wagner walked it off with a single up the middle to score Schwisow in the bottom of the 7th to close out game two.
Jayden Haley and Wagner recorded stolen bases against the Tigers beginning with Wagner in the 2nd and Haley in the 7th.
Maddi Duncan picked up the win completing the 7-inning shutout for her second of the season. Duncan threw 47 pitches while facing 25 batters and tallying 2 strikeouts and just 1 walk.
